Former National Unity Platform candidate for the Busiro East parliamentary seat, Mathias Walukagga, has endorsed fellow party member Emmanuel Matovu Magoola to contest for the constituency in the upcoming general elections.
Walukagga, a popular musician and political figure, made the endorsement while addressing a gathering in Busiro East, where he called on voters to support what he described as a new generation of leadership capable of delivering results for the area.
Using a football analogy to underline his message, Walukagga said leadership, like sport, requires timely changes to achieve success.
“If I am the Arsenal team coach and Ødegaard gets injured, and we want the trophy, we must take another player on loan so that we win,” he said, in remarks that drew applause from the crowd.
His endorsement comes amid intensifying political activity in Busiro East, with growing debate among residents over the performance of long-serving leaders and the need for renewed energy in representation.
Walukagga argued that the constituency required leaders with fresh ideas and commitment to community development, saying Magoola fit that profile.
He urged supporters of the National Unity Platform to rally behind the candidate to strengthen the party’s chances in the area.
Magoola, who has been active in community mobilisation, is campaigning on a platform focused on infrastructure improvement, youth empowerment and accountability in leadership.
He described Walukagga’s endorsement as a significant boost to his bid, saying it reinforced confidence in his agenda for Busiro East.
Residents who attended the event welcomed the endorsement, with several expressing optimism that Magoola’s candidacy could help address persistent challenges facing the constituency.
Walukaga’s backing is expected to carry weight in the area, given his influence as a cultural figure and his previous political engagement.
As the 2026 general elections approach, the endorsement adds momentum to Magoola’s campaign and signals a potentially competitive race for the Busiro East parliamentary seat.
